The Mission of Good Friends of Wilmington
Good Friends of Wilmington is a non-profit organization of women committed to raising monies in order to provide financial assistance to individuals and families who are in need or disadvantaged in New Hanover County.
Our mission is to assist those who are still in need when all other resources have been exhausted.
The Community We Serve
Funds raised are distributed according to our guidelines in partnership with the New Hanover County Department of Social Services. Funds are used for needs that are not provided for through any other channels. Because there are Good Friends who care, many individuals and families in our community have access to resources when there is nowhere else to turn. Since Good Friends of Wilmington’s inception in 1997, the organization has released 100% of all contributions back to those in need within our community.
Distribution Guidelines
- Although New Hanover County Department of Social Services (DSS) distributes our funds, recipients may or may not be DSS clients. Other organizations and individuals are encourages to refer prospective recipients to DSS.
- Funds will only be used for needs that are not provided through regular channels or funds DSS has at disposal. Distributions will be made through DSS, payable to the vendor, not the recipient.
- Recipients must be residents of New Hanover County.
